The way to leave the starting grounds when you're ready is through this gate. You speak with someone in charge of these teleporters, and are given the option of which new territory to visit. Their recommendation is that you go with your racial area, as other areas may feature beings more hostile to your race than others. While it is a bit jarring to see these industrial tech-looking machines in the middle of nature's beauty, it is a very French thing to do.
